Korea was excited celebrating its 70th Independence Day. The government announced that they made August 14 a temporary holiday. On that day, expressways of the whole nation were open free in order to revitalize the scared domestic economy. Jae-Kak and Sung-Guk are old friends of mine. Jae-Kak is from Andong and went to the same college as where I went in Ansung, and that’s how we became friends. Sung-Guk is an old buddy of mine from my hometown Gumi. We’ve been friends since our childhood. He is a production employee who works in three shifts at a Japanese glass factory.
I got on Gyeongbu Expressway at 12 a.m on August 14 to go to Gumi. Sung-Guk went to work that day without exception. After I spent a night with Sung-Guk, I passed through Seonsan tollgate and got on Jungbu Naeryuk Expressway to Seoul. It was late night and August 14 was almost over. I did so because I wanted to see Jae-Kak. I never asked him what he is going to do on this Independence Day, but somehow I was able to guess what he has been doing in Seoul on every August 14 during the last 10 years. At least the three of us were not helping the domestic demands of our country that was celebrating its 70th Independence Day.
I documented how Jae-Gak and Sung-Guk spent the Independence Day and edited and arranged this film linearly.
